At the beginning of the season of Lent, Nigel Biggar has written an op-ed article for The Times in which he examines Japan’s ongoing failure to repent of its complicity in war crimes in order to explore broader questions of shame, guilt, forgiveness, and cultural memory. On 14 December 2009, Nigel Biggar addressed The Westminster Forum on the topic, ‘Forgiving Enemies in Northern Ireland.’ A response was offered by Lord Trimble, former leader of the Ulster Unionist Party and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
